Home Straight

Well, the arrival of my son has slowed progress somewhat 🙂

Now at the back end of my paternity/holiday so managing to get a little work done on the office pod.  Front wall now insulated with left-over floor insulation, now boarded over with spare Aquapanel, although I need to order some curved plasterboard!

Cladding almost complete with just the door surround to finish…

Hoping to get this finished later on today, then I can get the door/window measured, quoted and ordered as maybe 3/4 weeks to be made?  Whilst that’s being done, onto the roof edge capping and I need to order a fiberglass kit for the roof.

Curved wall clad

I’ve just about clad the curved wall now with the massive pile of cedar cladding now a more manageable size with only a few full lengths needed either side of the door and plenty of short lengths to use up top/bottom of the door.  I’m really please with the look and the office is already beginning to blend in and the curved edge certainly helps…

The next major milestone will be finishing the cedar cladding and getting the windows measured/quoted for, after that, roof capping & prep prior to applying the fiberglass to the roof.

Round the bend

Managed to get a bit done this weekend, although office building was off the agenda on Mother’s Day! I’ve finished all the detailing around the window along with boarding & lining the curved wall, so hopefully will clad the curved wall next weekend. The main part was ensuring that the window finished exactly on a vertical full length strip of cedar so it looks clean 🙂

Also getting a feel for the inside as well, the space is around 5’6″ wide and 7’6″ long so with a desk across the end and a fairly minimalist approach it’ll be plenty big enough…

Curved Walls

Made some good progress this weekend & got the curve wall half finished.  I built some simple curved braces as shown below, then scored the Aqua panel every 50mm so it stayed as one sheet, but could bend around the 500mm radius curve, then covered in Nilvent.

I just need to score/ attach the top sheet, then the curved wall is complete.  I also fitted the final OSB board to the roof which I will then likely unscrew once I’ve complete the curved wall and can mark the ark on the underside.  After that, the cedar cladding will continue round the curve so I can finalise the door position.  Once the cladding is done, I can then order the windows & get the fibreglass kit for the roof after fitting the 70mm x 70mm 90degree barge panels around the edge of the roof… water tight by the end of April would be ideal!

Cedar Cladding

Managed to get a few hours in between showers today and get the cladding done, but I need some better weather to add the curved wall, finish off the roof OSB boards, before I can continue with the cladding…

The fact you can only get the Nilvent membrane in 50m rolls, means I have plenty spare to keep the structure dry!

Roof nearly done

Another stunning day today and was hot work doing the roof (not sure I can believe that for UK in March!), but managed to get the roof 3/4 done along with cutting a load of cedar cladding ready to fit.  This meant cutting a 10degree angle on the bottom of both the inner & outer layers to form a drip edge above the window… that will make sense with a close-up photo when fitted.  Also made a start on the final straight wall, but will leave the door frame position ‘flexible’ until I’ve cedar clad around onto that wall.  I’ll then fix the verticals & cut-out the threshold ready for the new door, final size TBC and yet to be ordered along with the window…

I have the roof metal 90degree drip edging ready to fit, apart from the curved section which will need umpteen cuts in the top face to put a curve in.  I’m thinking of doing the roof with fiberglass as ideal straight onto OSB board and will seal well on the trims etc…now back to work Monday…and a rest!

Cedar Cladding

Not major progress today (nursery run, Wickes, Screwfix & B&Q), but another day off work & sunny for most of the day.  Managed to get the Cedar cladding started & really chuffed with the look, 38mm wide battens with 12mm gap between them, a second layer behind offset to back the grooves;

Hopefully get the rest of the wall clad tomorrow, then onto the roof as the good weather cannot last!
